The Shar-Pei is a Chinese breed with southern origins. Known for their deep wrinkles in the West, Hong Kong Shar-Peis are less wrinkled. Ranked 64th on the American Kennel Club’s list of preferred breeds, their soft face, strong body, and behavior toward strangers all contribute to their reputation. In danger or confusion, they may revert to their ancient instincts, becoming alert and distant. The Shar-Pei will fight back with determination until the threat is eliminated.
