The Peruvian Hairless Dog, an ancient pre Inca breed, rose to prominence under the Incan Empire. Mostly hairless, some display small tufts on the head.

Early cultures sometimes consumed them, but Incas later revered and protected them. Artistic depictions appear on Andean ceramics and Moche vessels.
Typically 16–20 inches tall, up to 26 pounds, and living 11–12 years, they are lively, affectionate, alert, and continue as cultural ambassadors of Peru.
