He succeeded in getting his loot to Thailand. The cleaner was able to sell the majority of the stolen jewellery, so the police were able to apprehend the criminal despite the local government being aware of the crime.

The Blue Diamond was not one of the diamonds that the Thai government gave back to the family; nearly all of the other riches were imitations. The family never found a valuable stone in their many trips to Thailand in quest of a diamond, since some of them were murdered or went missing.
